Jump rope – probably the most easily accessible, affordable, yet most underutilized piece of exercise equipment. We don’t know why, maybe it’s human nature to think that something so innocuous can’t deliver as good a workout as a fancy looking machine. In any case, world class boxers who are among the richest athletes in the world, can buy any fancy equipment known to man. But they use skipping as a regular part of their regime. They must be onto something! Enough said. Our beginner/entry level workout will have you on your way.

Progression/Notes:

If skipping is new to you, you will find it difficult to go for even 20 sec without tripping. Don’t get discouraged! Keep at it and your body will adapt.

Use this workout twice a week with a few days between each or if this is your main form of exercise then go for thrice a week on alternate days ideally.

Jump rope will make your calves very sore due to a phenomenon called ‘eccentric loading’. Fear not, this is normal.

Once you have tried this workout for three weeks, move on to our Jump rope beginner 2 workout.
